Meet Dr. Laura Blackford. Since coming to Plymouth in 2014, she has enjoyed living out the role of family physician providing full-spectrum medical care. She is happy to provide care for her youngest patients, her oldest patients, and everyone in between; from non-surgical obstetrical care, pediatric, preventative health and chronic condition management, all the way through to geriatric medicine. She loves
working with and getting to know mothers-to-be during their prenatal care. As a family physician, that relationship extends beyond delivery to provide care for the newborn and whole family. The joyful act of handing off a newborn to the mother’s waiting arms is one of the most rewarding duties in Dr. Blackford’s day.
Dr. Blackford grew up in Ohio and came to Plymouth after completing her family medicine residency in Casper, Wyoming. Her medical degree was earned at the Ben Gurion University Medical School for International Health, in collaboration with
Columbia University, located in Be’er Sheva, Israel. In addition to learning medicine, she also had the opportunity to learn about the role a patient’s background and culture play in their approach to health. She values the opinions of her patients and
sees the doctor-patient relationship as a partnership. She is pleased to provide care for Hispanic patients and is aided in this by having a certified medical interpreter on her clinical team.
When not in the office, Dr. Blackford loves working with the outreach committee at her church which supports the Neighborhood Center, Bread of Life, and Link to Hope—organizations which provide food and other necessities to those who need it. The
Saturday morning Farmer’s Market in Plymouth has become a summer ritual for her. She also loves adventuring outdoors, hiking, kayaking, and traveling, as well as indoor adventures with baking and cooking.
